MOGADISHU, Somalia – Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre officially inaugurated the newly constructed emergency response center at De Martino Hospital in Mogadishu. The state-of-the-art facility, designed to address urgent healthcare needs, was built and equipped with significant support from the State of Qatar.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Wednesday, was attended by high-ranking officials, healthcare professionals, and international representatives.
Among the notable attendees was Ambassador Abdullah Salem Al Nuaimi from the Embassy of Qatar in Somalia, whose country played a pivotal role in funding and facilitating the project.
During his speech, Prime Minister Barre emphasized the importance of the emergency response center in strengthening Somalia’s healthcare system.
“This facility represents a new chapter in our efforts to provide timely and effective medical care to our citizens. It is a testament to the strong partnership between Somalia and Qatar, and we are deeply grateful for their unwavering support,” he stated.
The emergency response center is equipped with cutting-edge medical technology, including advanced diagnostic tools, trauma care units, and emergency treatment facilities.
The center also features specialized training spaces for medical personnel, aimed at enhancing their capacity to respond to critical situations.
Ambassador Abdullah Salem Al Nuaimi highlighted Qatar’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s development.
“This project is a reflection of the deep ties between our nations. We believe in the potential of Somalia and remain dedicated to assisting in its recovery and growth. The emergency response center will undoubtedly save countless lives and improve the quality of healthcare in Mogadishu,” he remarked.
De Martino Hospital, one of Somalia’s primary healthcare institutions, has long been a cornerstone of medical services in the capital.
The addition of the emergency response center is expected to significantly enhance its capacity to manage both routine and large-scale emergencies.
Local residents and healthcare workers have expressed optimism about the impact of the new facility. Dr. Amina Ali, a senior physician at De Martino Hospital, commented, “This is a monumental step forward for healthcare in Somalia. With these resources, we can respond more effectively to emergencies and provide better care for our patients.”
The inauguration marks another milestone in Somalia’s ongoing efforts to rebuild its infrastructure and improve public services.
