MOGADISHU, Somalia –The inauguration of the Somalia Fisheries Competent Authority marks a transformative step in Somalia’s journey toward sustainable economic progress.
During the event, Sara Merchant, Second Secretary Political at the British Embassy in Somalia, reiterated the United Kingdom’s enduring commitment to Somalia’s economic advancement and resilience.
Ms. Merchant underscored the pivotal role of the fisheries sector in Somalia’s economic transformation, advocating for sustainable practices and inclusive policies to unlock its vast potential.
“The establishment of the Fisheries Competent Authority is a crucial milestone in ensuring responsible management of Somalia’s natural resources. This initiative will create opportunities for local communities and strengthen the country’s long-term economic resilience,” she stated.
The UK, a key partner in Somalia’s development, has consistently championed initiatives that enhance governance, promote economic resilience, and empower marginalized groups.
