WARDER, Doollo Region – Officials from Puntland State of Somalia and the Somali Region of Ethiopia (DDS) held a high-level meeting earlier this week in Warder, the administrative capital of Ethiopia’s Doollo region.
The discussions culminated in a landmark agreement aimed at strengthening security and economic ties between the two regions.
The meeting, which brought together representatives from both administrations, focused on addressing shared challenges along the inter-state border regions of Mudug in Puntland and Doollo in Ethiopia.
According to a joint communiqué issued following the talks, the agreement emphasizes closer collaboration in tackling cross-border crimes and enhancing mutual security.
Key areas of cooperation include the apprehension of criminals, thieves, and smugglers, as well as the rendition of offenders to relevant authorities. The recovery of vehicles used in criminal activities or drug trafficking was also highlighted as a priority under the agreement.
Officials from both regions expressed optimism that the collaboration would foster stability and contribute to economic growth by addressing security concerns that have historically hindered cross-border trade and development.
This agreement marks a significant step forward in relations between Puntland and DDS, with both administrations committing to continued dialogue and cooperation in addressing mutual interests.
