KISMAYO – The president of Somalia’s semi-autonomous Jubaland State, Ahmed Mohamed Islam, held talks Monday with a visiting delegation from United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), focusing on strengthening security cooperation and counterterrorism operations in the region.
The meeting in Kismayo brought together Islam and Claude K. Tudor Jr., AFRICOM’s Director of Special Operations, alongside other members of the U.S. delegation.
According to the Jubaland presidency, the discussions centered on enhancing joint efforts to combat militant groups, improving coordination between Somali forces and international partners, and supporting ongoing operations aimed at stabilizing areas across the regional state.
Jubaland, which borders Kenya and includes strategic coastal and border areas, has long been a key front line in Somalia’s fight against the militant group Al-Shabaab.
Officials said the meeting also emphasized the importance of continued international support for Somalia’s security institutions as authorities seek to expand stability and governance in regions affected by insurgency.
