LAS ANOD, Somalia — Somalia’s National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has distributed food assistance to 1,000 vulnerable families in Las Anod as part of an ongoing humanitarian response to drought and difficult living conditions in the region.
SoDMA Commissioner Mahmoud Moalim Abdulle, alongside the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of North Eastern State and the mayor of Las Anod, oversaw the distribution.
The assistance is part of SoDMA’s wider food distribution programme across North Eastern State, where communities continue to face humanitarian pressures linked to drought and limited access to basic necessities.
Officials said the agency plans to extend assistance to additional communities affected by worsening living conditions, with priority given to vulnerable households in need of emergency support.
The latest distribution comes as Somali federal and regional authorities intensify efforts to coordinate humanitarian assistance and respond to recurring drought, food insecurity and displacement across the country.
