BURCO, Somaliland — Somaliland’s Minister of Health, Hussein Bashir Hirsi, has launched a new health programme in Burco aimed at strengthening access to essential primary healthcare services across Togdheer region.
Hirsi, who was leading a ministry delegation on a working visit to the region, officially launched the Essential Package of Health Services (EPHS) Project in Burco.
The new programme replaces the Better Lives Project, which previously supported 28 health centres across Togdheer.
The transition is expected to provide a new framework for supporting health facilities and maintaining access to basic medical services in the region, where health centres serve communities spread across both urban and rural areas.
The launch comes as Somaliland continues efforts to expand and strengthen its primary healthcare system, with health authorities seeking to improve the availability and quality of essential services outside major urban centres.
The ministry has not yet released further details on the new project’s funding, duration or the number of facilities it will support.
The EPHS programme is expected to build on existing health infrastructure while providing continued support for communities that previously benefited from the Better Lives programme.
