MOGADISHU, Somalia — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud opened the Somalia Development Investment Conference in Mogadishu, bringing together government officials, business leaders, private-sector executives and development partners to discuss ways to expand investment and accelerate sustainable economic growth.

The conference, hosted by the Somalia Development and Reconstruction Bank (SDRB), focused on the country’s development financing needs and opportunities, with particular attention to moving Somalia beyond recovery toward sustained economic growth.

President Hassan Sheikh said his government was prioritizing investment in sustainable development, expanding domestic production and strengthening the role of the private sector in creating jobs and supporting long-term economic growth.

He said Somalia’s National Vision 2060 provides a long-term framework for achieving a growing economy and sustainable development, requiring strategic investment across key sectors of the economy.

The president highlighted agriculture, livestock, fisheries, energy, infrastructure and private businesses as priority areas for investment, saying stronger financing in these sectors would help expand production and create new economic opportunities.

The conference provides a platform for government institutions, investors, businesses and development partners to examine financing gaps and explore partnerships that can support Somalia’s economic transformation.

The discussions come as Somalia seeks to strengthen domestic revenue, attract private investment and develop productive sectors as part of its broader transition from humanitarian and post-conflict recovery toward a more self-reliant and diversified economy.
