MOGADISHU – The Somali Studies International Association (SSIA), known for its academic rigor and non-partisan stance, has taken a firm position against the unauthorized use of its name in relation to an upcoming conference scheduled for December 15–18, 2024.

The disputed event is organized by Somalia’s Ministry of Education, Culture, and Higher Education in collaboration with Somali National University.

In a press release endorsed by ten scholars, SSIA demanded that the Ministry cease using its name for promotional purposes, stressing that the association is not affiliated with the event.

They also called on the public, participants, and potential partners to disregard any claims of SSIA involvement made by the Ministry, led by Minister Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir.

The SSIA emphasized that this action aims to safeguard its reputation and commitment to academic integrity, transparency, and professionalism.
