MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Embassy of Turkey in Mogadishu hosted a special iftar reception on Monday evening, bringing together high-ranking federal officials, representatives from civil society, and key figures from the health and education sectors.
The event, held at the embassy premises, aimed to foster community ties, encourage collaboration, and facilitate dialogue on pressing social issues during the holy month of Ramadan.
The iftar gathering provided a platform for meaningful discussions on social development, governance, and cooperation in vital sectors.
Turkish diplomats and Somali officials exchanged views on strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in areas where Turkey has been a longstanding development partner, including healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
Among the distinguished guests were senior government ministers, parliamentarians, and influential figures from civil society organizations.
Discussions revolved around ongoing and future collaborative initiatives, reflecting Turkey’s continued commitment to supporting Somalia’s progress.
Ambassador of Turkey to Somalia, Alper Aktaş, welcomed attendees and underscored the significance of such engagements in deepening the bond between the two nations.
“Ramadan is a time of unity, reflection, and solidarity. This gathering reaffirms our shared values and commitment to working together for the betterment of Somalia,” he said.
The event also highlighted Turkey’s extensive contributions to Somalia, including investments in education, medical services, humanitarian aid, and capacity-building programs.
The Turkish government has been a key partner in supporting Somalia’s reconstruction efforts, with initiatives such as scholarships for Somali students, the establishment of hospitals, and the expansion of critical infrastructure projects.
As the evening concluded, attendees expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to engage in open dialogue and strengthen collaborative efforts.
“The Turkish Embassy’s iftar reception not only celebrated the spirit of Ramadan but also reinforced the growing partnership between Turkey and Somalia in addressing shared challenges and opportunities for development,” one of the attendees added.
