MOGADISHU, Somalia – In a significant appeal to Somalia’s leadership, former National Security Advisor and Intelligence Chief Fahad Yasin Dahir has urged President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to engage in broad public consultations before making critical national decisions.
Speaking on the need for unity and collaboration, Yasin emphasized the importance of inclusive dialogue to address Somalia’s pressing challenges.
“Mr. President, we urge you to engage in broad consultation with the public before making critical decisions,” Yasin stated. “We are ready to work with you to bridge divergent viewpoints, offer counsel, and provide practical solutions to safeguard our nation’s future.”
Yasin highlighted the urgent need for a unified national strategy against terrorism, which he described as an “existential threat” to Somalia. He called on the President to convene an all-inclusive national dialogue, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss solutions without preconditions.
“This dialogue should be inclusive and free of preconditions, ensuring openness from both your administration and the opposition,” he said.
In his closing remarks, Yasin stressed the importance of national unity and urged President Mohamud to rise above political divisions.
“This is not a time for division or blame but an opportunity for unity,” Yasin declared. “We look to you to transcend all that threatens to divide our country and its people.”
The statement comes amid ongoing political and security challenges in Somalia, with increasing calls for consensus-building to stabilize the nation. Analysts suggest that Yasin’s remarks could signal a push for broader reconciliation efforts ahead of key national decisions.
