DJIBOUTI CITY, Djibouti – Djibouti has appointed Ambassador Abdoulkader Houssein Omar as its new Minister of Foreign Affairs, following the election of Mahmoud Ali Youssouf as the Chairperson of the African Union Commission. The appointment was made by President Ismail Omar Guelleh.
Ambassador Abdoulkader, a seasoned diplomat, previously served as Djibouti’s Ambassador to Kuwait before his current appointment.
His extensive experience in diplomacy is expected to shape Djibouti’s foreign policy amid regional and international developments.
The appointment comes after Youssouf’s election to lead the African Union Commission, a position that will see him oversee continental affairs and policy coordination among member states.
Youssouf had served as Djibouti’s top diplomat for over two decades, playing a pivotal role in the country’s international relations and mediation efforts.
