MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somalia and Kazakhstan have formally established diplomatic relations, officials from both countries have confirmed.
In a joint statement, the two governments said the agreement was intended to strengthen cooperation in the areas of trade, culture and politics. They added that the move reflected a shared interest in promoting regional stability and expanding their global presence.
Somalia has in recent months intensified its diplomatic outreach, seeking new partnerships to support economic recovery and stability after decades of conflict. Mogadishu has recently signed a number of agreements with countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia, focusing on trade, investment and security cooperation.
Kazakhstan, a major energy producer and Central Asia’s largest economy, has been working to broaden its diplomatic and economic ties with African states.

The establishment of ties between Somalia and Kazakhstan marks a step towards closer cooperation between the Horn of Africa and Central Asia.
