MOGADISHU, Somalia — The European Union, working with Adam Smith Europe, supports Somalia’s Ministries of Justice, Defence, and Internal Security to strengthen institutions and improve public services.
The partnership focuses on building capacity, promoting transparency, and enhancing governance across key government bodies.
A recent steering committee meeting brings together officials from the three ministries, EU representatives, and Adam Smith Europe to review progress and set priorities for the next phase of support.
EU Ambassador to Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro, says, “The EU remains a committed partner of Somalia, supporting its efforts to build a secure and stable country. Through our cooperation, we help strengthen the Somali National Army and ensure that Somalia gradually takes full responsibility for its own security.”
She adds, “We work closely with the Somali government to support political stabilization and the development of an effective legal framework.”
Officials at the meeting highlight the importance of improving coordination between ministries, training staff, and reforming service delivery so that citizens benefit from tangible improvements. They also emphasize the need for continued international support as Somalia advances its institutional reforms.
Nevertheless, the EU and Adam Smith Europe partnership represents a significant step in Somalia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen state institutions, promote rule of law, and maintain stability across the country.
