MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somalia’s Council of Ministers has approved a set of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, focusing on strengthening cooperation in media and cultural affairs.
The decision came during the cabinet’s weekly meeting chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, where ministers also received security briefings from senior police officials, including the national police chief and the Benadir regional commander.
According to the reports presented, progress has been made in improving security in the capital, Mogadishu, and across the country, with particular attention given to preparations for the forthcoming Benadir Regional Council elections.
The cabinet praised Somali security forces for their advances in the fight against al-Shabab and their continued efforts to safeguard citizens and maintain stability.
In a separate statement, ministers condemned recent incidents described as contrary to Somali culture and Islamic principles, involving abuses against innocent civilians. The government instructed security agencies to ensure that those responsible are brought before the law.
