MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs inaugurated a new ambassador’s residence in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday, as the country seeks to strengthen its diplomatic presence and institutional capacity abroad, Arlaadi Media Network reports.
The ceremony was officiated by Hamza Adan Haadoow, Permanent Secretary at Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and attended by Tanzanian government representatives, diplomats, officials and members of the Somali community.
Haadoow said the investment in diplomatic infrastructure reflects Somalia’s commitment to rebuilding its foreign missions and enhancing its engagement with regional and international partners. He highlighted the importance of institutional continuity and dignified representation in advancing the country’s foreign policy objectives.
The inauguration follows the renovation of Somalia’s embassy chancery in Dar es Salaam last year, marking the second major diplomatic infrastructure project completed within a year under the leadership of Ambassador Ilyas Ali Hassan.
Somalia’s embassy in Dar es Salaam represents the country in Tanzania and, on a non-resident basis, to several other countries in the region as well as to the East African Community (EAC), making it a key hub for Somalia’s diplomacy in East and Central Africa.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Ilyas Ali Hassan said the residence should be viewed as a national asset intended to support institutional continuity and future diplomatic engagement. He reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Tanzania, promoting regional cooperation and supporting the Somali diaspora.
The ambassador expressed appreciation to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and Foreign Minister Abdisalan Abdi Ali for their leadership and support, and thanked the Tanzanian government, diplomatic corps and Somali community for their cooperation.
Somalia’s embassy also noted the historical significance of its diplomatic presence in Tanzania, saying the re-organised compound forms part of a broader national diplomatic footprint that includes additional strategic properties retained by the Somali government in Dar es Salaam.
