MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somalia’s Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has delivered humanitarian assistance to thousands of vulnerable families affected by recurring drought and climate-related pressures in Puntland, as authorities continue efforts to respond to growing humanitarian needs.
The aid reached 6,500 families in the towns of Galkayo, Jariiban and Goldogob, including low-income households and displaced communities facing difficult living conditions.
SoDMA said the assistance was targeted at families most severely affected by drought, with priority given to those facing the greatest humanitarian challenges. The agency said the support aims to help vulnerable communities meet basic needs and reduce the impact of food shortages.
Beneficiaries welcomed the assistance, saying it arrived at a critical time as many households struggle with rising hardships caused by prolonged drought and limited resources. Some families said the support would help ease pressure on their daily lives.
The latest distribution is part of SoDMA’s wider humanitarian response programme aimed at supporting communities affected by drought, displacement and other emergencies across Somalia.
The agency said it would continue expanding emergency assistance efforts and working with partners to reach people facing the effects of climate shocks and humanitarian crises.
