MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somalia’s National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) and China have signed a humanitarian assistance agreement worth about $2.1 million to support vulnerable communities affected by emergencies across the country.
The agreement is aimed at strengthening relief efforts for communities facing the impact of drought, floods and other humanitarian challenges, according to officials.
China’s Ambassador to Somalia, Wang Yu, said Beijing would continue supporting Mogadishu, particularly in humanitarian assistance and efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation.
SoDMA Chairman Mahmoud Moalim Abdulle welcomed China’s continued support, describing the partnership as important in helping Somalia respond to humanitarian needs and strengthen disaster management efforts.
The agreement comes as Somalia continues to face recurring climate-related emergencies, including droughts, floods and displacement, placing pressure on humanitarian response systems.
China has been one of Somalia’s development and humanitarian partners, providing assistance in areas including emergency relief, infrastructure and capacity-building as the two countries work to expand bilateral ties.
