LIANYUNGANG, China — Somalia’s Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail, known as Fartaag, attended an international conference on public security cooperation in the eastern Chinese city of Lianyungang, joining officials and security representatives from around the world.
The 2026 Conference of the Global Public Security Cooperation Forum brought together more than 2,100 representatives from 139 countries, according to the Somali government.
Mr. Fartaag’s participation comes as Somalia seeks to strengthen cooperation with international partners on security and law enforcement while building the capacity of its national institutions.
The forum provides a platform for participating countries to exchange views on public security and explore areas of cooperation in addressing shared security challenges.
For Somalia, such international engagements are part of a broader effort to deepen security partnerships as the government assumes greater responsibility for the country’s security.
The conference also offered an opportunity for Somali officials to engage with counterparts from other countries on issues related to public safety, institutional capacity and international security cooperation.
