Somalia is taking part in international negotiations in China on establishing a global alliance to combat fraud and other forms of criminal activity carried out through telecommunications networks and the internet, with officials from 48 countries attending the discussions.
Mohamed H. Shire, Director General of Somalia’s Ministry of Internal Security, is representing the country at the three-day meeting in Chongqing, held from October 27 to 29.
The talks are focusing on the proposed alliance’s framework, its legal foundations and mechanisms for cooperation among participating countries to prevent, investigate and combat crimes involving telecommunications and digital platforms.
The negotiations follow an earlier meeting in Lianyungang, China, where the initiative was launched earlier this year. The latest discussions are intended to advance preparations for the formal establishment of the international alliance.
Somalia’s participation comes amid growing international efforts to strengthen cross-border cooperation against cyber-enabled fraud and the misuse of digital communication systems, which often involve criminal networks operating across national borders.
