KINSHASA, DRC – Somalia’s Ambassador to Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the East African Community, Ilyas Ali Hassan, met with DRC Immigration Authority Director General Roland Kashwantale Chihoza to explore ways to ease travel restrictions for Somali nationals, according to a statement from the Somali mission.
The talks, held in Kinshasa, centered on improving visa accessibility, reducing administrative delays for Somali travelers, and strengthening technical cooperation between the two governments.
Officials also discussed enhancing information-sharing mechanisms to better manage migration flows across the region.
Ambassador Hassan underscored Somalia’s push to expand regional engagement and ensure its growing business and diaspora communities can move more freely within East and Central Africa.
Chihoza welcomed the initiative, expressing the DRC’s willingness to streamline procedures and support broader diplomatic cooperation.
The meeting is part of ongoing efforts by Somalia to secure more flexible mobility arrangements for its citizens as it deepens ties with neighboring states.
