MOGADISHU, Somalia – The UK has reaffirmed its commitment to Somalia, pledging continued support in the political and security sectors despite global economic pressures and shifting international funding priorities.
“We are here, we’re not going anywhere, and we will keep supporting the Somali people,” UK Ambassador to Somalia Charles King told Arlaadi Media Network in an exclusive interview.
Ambassador King stressed that London views Somalia as a strategic partner in the Horn of Africa and underscored the UK’s role in backing Somalia’s state-building agenda.
“Our support is not just financial — it’s political, diplomatic, and long-term. We want to see Somalia succeed,” he furthermore added.
The UK has been one of Somalia’s leading international allies, contributing significantly to stabilization efforts. Through training and equipping Somali security forces, supporting governance reforms, and funding humanitarian and development programs, Britain has positioned itself as a consistent partner at a time when some nations are scaling back.
In recent years, the UK has also played a key role in mobilizing international support for Somalia, including hosting donor conferences and pushing for global engagement on debt relief and economic recovery.
Nevertheless, observers say the reaffirmation of United Kingdom support comes at a crucial moment as Somalia navigates pressing security challenges, political reforms, and a fragile economic recovery.
