MOGADISHU, Somalia – The head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Somalia, Manuel Marques Pereira, has urged the international community to keep Somalia at the forefront of its priorities, warning that neglect would undermine progress towards peace and stability.
Speaking exclusively to Arlaadi Media in Mogadishu, Mr Pereira stressed the importance of sustained engagement, pointing to the urgent need for practical solutions to the country’s longstanding challenges.
“It would be an attack on our collective humanity not to contribute to making this country peaceful and prosperous. Let’s all help Somalia go very far—because it can go very far,” he said.
Somalia continues to grapple with insecurity, displacement, and economic hardship, but international agencies such as the IOM argue that the country also has immense potential.
With continued backing from global partners, Somalia could build on recent gains and chart a path towards long-term stability.
Mr Pereira described international support as a “collective duty,” highlighting that progress in Somalia would not only benefit its people but also strengthen regional and global stability.
The appeal comes at a time when international attention is often divided by multiple global crises. For Somalia, Mr Pereira said, ensuring consistent commitment from partners remains essential in order to unlock opportunities for peace, resilience, and prosperity.
