HARGEISA – Somaliland’s cabinet has approved a new national quarantine law designed to strengthen livestock health standards, improve export procedures and bring the sector into line with international sanitary requirements, describing the legislation as a key step in protecting one of the territory’s most important economic industries.
The decisions were announced after a cabinet meeting chaired by President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, during which ministers also said the overall security situation remained stable. The cabinet approved new regulations governing the use of official government vehicle registration plates to tighten administrative oversight.
The government also reiterated its claim that the disputed Sool region is an integral part of Somaliland, while calling for dialogue, reconciliation and peaceful engagement to address local grievances.
Livestock exports are a cornerstone of Somaliland’s economy, making animal health and quarantine standards a priority for maintaining access to regional and international markets.
