KISMAYO, Somalia — Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam held talks with Maj. Gen. Claude K. Tudor Jr., commander of U.S. Africa Command’s Special Operations Forces, and other officials to discuss security cooperation and efforts to intensify operations against militant groups.
The meeting focused on accelerating military operations aimed at clearing areas in Jubaland from Al-Shabaab and strengthening coordination between Jubaland authorities and U.S. security partners in counterterrorism efforts.
President Ahmed Madobe was accompanied by Jubaland Intelligence and Security Agency Director Mohamed Ahmed Sabriye during the discussions.
The talks come as Somali federal and regional forces, supported by international partners, continue operations against Al-Shabaab, which remains active in parts of southern and central Somalia.
Jubaland, particularly areas near the Kenya border and the Lower Juba region, has been a key front in Somalia’s counterterrorism campaign, with security forces working to regain control of territories held or contested by militant groups.
The United States has provided support to Somali security partners through training, intelligence sharing and counterterrorism assistance as part of broader efforts to combat extremist threats in the Horn of Africa.
