DJIBOUTI CITY, Djibouti — The Speaker of Somalia’s House of the People, Abdulqadir Mohamed Nur (Jama), arrived in Djibouti on Monday for a four-day official visit aimed at strengthening relations between the two neighbouring countries and expanding cooperation between their parliaments.
Jama was received at the airport by Dileita Mohamed Dileita, president of Djibouti’s National Assembly, alongside members of the country’s parliament.
The visit follows an invitation from Dileita and is intended to reinforce the longstanding ties between Somalia and Djibouti, which share close historical, cultural and political connections.
Focus on Parliamentary Cooperation
The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for officials from both countries to discuss ways to deepen cooperation between their legislative institutions, exchange parliamentary experience and advance matters of mutual interest.
Somalia’s parliament said the visit reflects the importance of maintaining the two countries’ longstanding relationship, founded on friendship and brotherhood, while strengthening collaboration between their elected representatives.
Cooperation between the two parliaments is an important channel for dialogue on shared priorities and for strengthening institutional ties between the neighbouring countries.
Somali Delegation Accompanies Speaker
Jama is accompanied by a delegation that includes Mohamed Abdullahi Hassan (Nuux), a member of the House of the People serving as its usher, other members of the Somali parliament and the secretary-general of the House of the People.
The four-day visit is expected to further diplomatic engagement between Somalia and Djibouti, with an emphasis on parliamentary relations and the interests of both countries and their peoples.
The visit underscores the continued importance both governments place on their close bilateral relationship and cooperation through national institutions.
