MOGADISHU, Somalia — Qatar Charity has donated 12 dialysis machines to Daarusalaam Hospital in Mogadishu, in a contribution aimed at expanding access to life-saving kidney treatment and strengthening Somalia’s healthcare capacity.

The donation was welcomed by the Hormuud Salaam Foundation (HSF), which has supported dialysis services at the hospital for the past decade, providing free treatment to vulnerable patients who cannot afford the cost of care.

The foundation described Qatar Charity’s contribution as an important investment in Somalia’s healthcare services, saying the additional equipment would increase the hospital’s capacity to treat patients and reduce pressure on existing dialysis machines.

Strengthening Access to Kidney Treatment

Dialysis is an essential treatment for patients whose kidneys can no longer adequately filter waste and excess fluids from the blood.

Access to the treatment remains a significant challenge for patients who face financial barriers and limited availability of specialized medical equipment.

For the past 10 years, Hormuud Salaam Foundation has supported dialysis services at Daarusalaam Hospital, helping vulnerable patients receive treatment free of charge.

The addition of 12 machines is expected to strengthen the hospital’s ability to accommodate more patients and improve access to specialized kidney care.

The contribution also highlights the role of cooperation between humanitarian organizations and Somali institutions in addressing gaps in healthcare provision.

Qatar Charity and HSF Visit School for the Blind

Following the handover ceremony, representatives of Hormuud Salaam Foundation accompanied Qatar Charity’s Somalia Country Director, Abdifatah Aden Moalim, and his delegation on a visit to Al-Nuur School for the Blind.

The school, which is supported by HSF, is described as the largest institution in Somalia serving children with visual impairments.

The visit highlighted another area of cooperation between the organizations: expanding educational opportunities for children with disabilities and supporting more inclusive learning environments.

The engagement reflected a shared interest in extending humanitarian assistance beyond healthcare to include education and social development.

Broader Humanitarian Partnership

Hormuud Salaam Foundation expressed appreciation to Qatar Charity for its continued contributions to humanitarian assistance and social development in Somalia.

The two organizations’ engagement reflects the importance of partnerships in supporting vulnerable communities, particularly in sectors where access to essential services remains limited.

The latest contribution brings together two important priorities: improving access to specialized healthcare and promoting inclusive education.

For Somalia, such initiatives underscore the role of humanitarian and philanthropic partnerships in strengthening essential services and expanding opportunities for communities facing social and economic challenges.
