KHARTOUM, Sudan — Somalia’s Ambassador to Sudan, Ahmed Jama Omar, has presented his Letters of Credence to Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council and commander-in-chief of the armed forces, in Khartoum.
Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Ahmed Jama Omar was the first ambassador to present credentials at the presidential palace in Khartoum since the outbreak of Sudan’s war, describing the ceremony as a reflection of the longstanding and close relations between Somalia and Sudan.
The presentation comes as Sudan continues to grapple with a conflict that has displaced millions of people and disrupted state institutions, diplomatic missions and basic services across the country.
Somalia and Sudan have maintained longstanding political, cultural and diplomatic ties, with cooperation extending to education, trade, security and regional affairs.
The Somali government has repeatedly expressed solidarity with the Sudanese people and support for Sudan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
The ambassador’s appointment and presentation of credentials mark the resumption of a formal diplomatic process at Sudan’s presidential palace amid the continuing conflict, underscoring Mogadishu’s efforts to maintain high-level relations with Khartoum.
