HARGEISA, Somaliland — Somaliland’s Minister of Information, Culture and National Guidance, Barkhad Jama Batuun, met with Samira Hassan Ahmed, head of the UNDP’s Hargeisa Area Office, on Tuesday to discuss cooperation in cultural affairs, media development and other areas of mutual interest.
According to a statement from the ministry, the two sides agreed to strengthen coordination and pursue a longer-term partnership aligned with the ministry’s priorities and development plans.
The meeting reflects the UNDP’s longstanding engagement in Somaliland, where it has supported programmes spanning governance, justice, development and institutional capacity. UNDP records identify Samira Hassan Ahmed as head of its Hargeisa Area Office.
The discussions also come as Somaliland’s authorities seek to expand cooperation with international development partners on institutional and development programmes. Recent UNDP-backed initiatives in Somaliland have included support for justice institutions and local governance.
The ministry said the latest talks would provide a basis for closer coordination in the cultural and media sectors, though it did not disclose details on specific projects or funding.
