MOGADISHU, Somalia — Italy’s Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) unit has donated food kits to residents in Mogadishu’s Hawlwadag and Abdi Aziz districts, in an initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable communities and strengthening cooperation between Italy and Somalia.
The donation was carried out as part of Italy’s broader CIMIC activities in Mogadishu, which have included humanitarian assistance, professional training and support for local infrastructure. Italy’s Ministry of Defence has previously reported similar food distributions in Hawl Wadag and other Mogadishu districts, targeting families in need.
The latest initiative reflects an effort to translate international cooperation into direct assistance for local communities. Food support can provide immediate relief for households facing economic and humanitarian pressures, while also reinforcing ties between Italian personnel and Somali communities.
Italian civil-military cooperation activities in Somalia have also included vocational training for vulnerable groups and projects to improve public facilities, according to Italy’s Defence Ministry.
The Italian Embassy in Mogadishu continues to operate from the International Campus at Aden Adde International Airport, where Italy maintains its diplomatic and defence representation in Somalia.
The food-kit distribution is therefore part of a wider pattern of engagement in which humanitarian assistance and community-level cooperation complement Italy’s broader partnership with Somalia.
