BOSASO, Somalia — A United Nations Development Programme-backed initiative in Bosaso has brought police officers and community representatives together for training aimed at improving cooperation between law enforcement and residents.
The programme focuses on strengthening coordination, public engagement and confidence in local security institutions, according to UNDP Somalia.
The training forms part of broader stabilization efforts designed to promote community-based approaches to security and build stronger relationships between police and the communities they serve.
Organizers said closer cooperation between residents and law enforcement can help improve communication, strengthen public trust and support more responsive security services.
The initiative comes as Somali authorities and international partners increasingly emphasize community engagement and local ownership as important components of stabilization efforts, alongside efforts to strengthen the capacity of security institutions.
For Bosaso, a major commercial and port city in Puntland, stronger links between communities and security institutions are seen as an important part of maintaining stability and improving public confidence in local policing.
