MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somalia has condemned Colombia’s reported recognition of Israel’s claim to sovereignty over the Golan Heights, describing the move as contrary to international law and the United Nations Charter.
In a statement, the Federal Government of Somalia said any recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the territory was “null and void,” maintaining that the Golan Heights remains occupied Syrian territory.
Somalia reaffirmed its support for resolving the Israeli-Syrian dispute through dialogue and in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions.
The Somali government said those resolutions affirm Syria’s right to the restoration of its territory to the borders that existed before the 1967 war.
Mogadishu also called on all countries, including Colombia, to uphold international law, respect the territorial integrity of states and reject recognition of territories it considers occupied.
The statement reflects Somalia’s broader position that disputes over territory and sovereignty should be addressed through international law and established United Nations frameworks.
