HARGEISA — Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi “Cirro” has met Kenyan lawmaker Mpuru Aburi and a delegation of investors in Hargeisa for talks focused on expanding political and economic cooperation between Somaliland and Kenya.
The meeting at the presidential palace was attended by senior officials from the ruling WADDANI party, including its chairman Hirsi Ali Haji Hassan and deputy chairman Mohamed Haji Yusuf “Waabeeyo.”
According to the Somaliland presidency, discussions centered on strengthening ties in trade, investment, economic development and broader regional cooperation, with both sides exploring opportunities for closer engagement between Somaliland and Kenya.
President Cirro said Somaliland remained committed to attracting foreign investment and creating a favorable business environment, describing the territory as open to international partnerships and investment across its natural resources and other sectors.
Mpuru Aburi, a member of Kenya’s National Assembly representing Tigania East Constituency, thanked the president for the reception and pledged to support stronger relations between Somaliland and Kenya. He said he would work to advance areas of mutual interest and promote deeper cooperation between the two sides.
The meeting comes as Somaliland continues to pursue stronger diplomatic and commercial partnerships across East Africa despite lacking international recognition as an independent state.
Kenya maintains an office in Hargeisa, while Somaliland has sought to expand economic and political engagement with Nairobi in recent years, although Kenya officially continues to recognize Somalia’s territorial integrity.
