TOKYO, Japan — Somalia’s ambassador to Japan, Dr. Hodan Osman Abdi, held meetings with Japanese government officials, development agencies, businesses and members of the Somali community during a working visit to Tokyo aimed at expanding cooperation between the two countries.
During the visit on July 30 and 31, Ambassador Abdi met with senior officials from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to discuss development cooperation, professional training and efforts to strengthen the capacity of Somali government institutions.
She also held talks with Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on ways to deepen diplomatic relations and enhance cooperation between Mogadishu and Tokyo.
The ambassador met executives from Toyota Tsusho Corporation to discuss Somalia’s evolving economy and potential investment opportunities for Japanese companies, including areas linked to development and private-sector growth.
The meetings come as Somalia seeks to strengthen partnerships with international investors and development partners to support economic recovery, institutional development and long-term growth.
Ambassador Abdi was accompanied during the engagements by Somalia’s First Consul and Deputy Ambassador to Japan, Abdisalam Suleyman Kodar.
Japan has been one of Somalia’s longstanding development partners, supporting projects in areas including governance, infrastructure, humanitarian assistance and capacity building as Somalia works to rebuild state institutions after decades of instability.
