MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali received the credentials of Algeria’s newly appointed ambassador to Somalia, Mohamed Alim, during a ceremony in Mogadishu marking the beginning of his diplomatic assignment.
The two officials reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening relations between the two countries and expanding cooperation across political, economic, security and cultural sectors, Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The appointment comes as Mogadishu and Algiers continue efforts to deepen engagement on regional issues and strengthen ties within African and Arab diplomatic frameworks.
Somalia and Algeria have maintained longstanding relations based on shared membership in the African Union, the Arab League and other multilateral institutions, with both countries emphasizing cooperation on peace, security and development priorities.
The credential ceremony marked the formal start of Ambassador Alim’s tenure as Algeria’s representative in Somalia, as the two governments seek to broaden areas of collaboration.
